How do i apply gravity to my animated ragdoll ?

Hi there i have a zombie ragdoll which is also animated. when they animation controller is controlling they zombie the ragdoll joints rigidbodys are set to kinematic to stop the ragdoll for happening. when the zombie dies the animator is disabled and the ragdoll joints rigidbody are set to non kinematic so the ragdoll effect takes place, problem is with the ragdolls set to kinematic when animations are playing i cant get gravity on the zombie while they animations are playing and the ragdoll joints are set to non kinematic. i tried adding a non kinematic gravity enabled rigidbody to the parent object and the zombie just flew around like crazy, any ideas ? thanks
